How to compare insurance quotes
Compare quotes on the same basis: one type of insurance, the same limits, deductible, term and currency. The cheapest policy often has more exclusions.
- Scope of coverage
- Which risks are included and on what terms: covered events, territory and policy period.
- Limits
- The maximum the policy pays in total, per occurrence and for specific types of loss.
- Deductible
- The amount you pay yourself. A higher deductible lowers the premium but raises your costs when you have a loss.
- Exclusions
- Cases with no payout: wear and tear, intentional acts, certain events and types of property.
- Premium and payment terms
- The total cost, installments, fees and discounts, for example for a claims-free history or bundling policies.
- Financial strength
- AM Best, S&P, Moody’s or Fitch ratings show an insurer’s ability to pay its obligations.
- Claims handling
- How to report a claim, which documents are needed, and how long review and payment take.
- Additional services
- Assistance, towing, rental car, telemedicine and other options.
