About Assured Guaranty
Assured Guaranty Ltd. was formed by ACE Limited in August 2003 as a holding company for its financial guaranty operations and went public on the NYSE (AGO) in April 2004. It is headquartered in Hamilton, Bermuda, with U.S. offices in New York and San Francisco. In 2009 it acquired Financial Security Assurance, later renamed Assured Guaranty Municipal Corp.
What it does
Assured Guaranty provides financial guaranty insurance: if an issuer misses a scheduled principal or interest payment on an insured bond, the insurer pays the shortfall to the bondholder. It insures U.S. and non-U.S. public finance (including infrastructure) and structured finance obligations, mainly in the U.S. and the UK, and also participates in asset management. It does not sell consumer insurance.

Assured Guaranty Inc. holds financial strength ratings of AA (stable) from S&P, AA+ (stable) from KBRA and A1 (stable) from Moody's.
