The group's history starts in 1929, when Tai Ping Fire & Marine Insurance was set up in Shanghai; it was renamed Taiping Insurance in 1933. China Taiping Insurance Holdings Company Limited was incorporated in Hong Kong in February 2000 and listed on the Main Board of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong in June 2000 (stock code 00966). It is headquartered in Hong Kong, and its controlling shareholder is China Taiping Insurance Group Ltd.
