Germania began in 1896 in Perry, Texas, when 31 founding members led by Otto Rau organized the Germania Mutual Aid Association. Today the group is built around the membership-owned farm mutual concept, with its home office in Brenham. The lead company is Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Association. Affiliates include Germania Insurance Company, Germania Fire & Casualty Company, Germania Select Insurance Company, Germania Property & Casualty Insurance Company and Germania Life Insurance Company, marketed as GermaniaLIFE.
