MAPFRE Insurance is the brand of MAPFRE U.S.A. Corp., the US arm of MAPFRE S.A., a global insurance and reinsurance group headquartered in Madrid. The US operation is based at 211 Main Street in Webster, Massachusetts. MAPFRE entered the US personal lines market in a major way when it completed the purchase of The Commerce Group, a Webster-based auto insurer, in 2008.

Pending acquisition of Safety Insurance
On July 23, 2026, MAPFRE announced that MAPFRE USA had signed a definitive agreement to acquire Safety Insurance Group, Inc., a Boston-based property and casualty insurer, in an all-cash deal valued at $1.54 billion. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027, subject to regulatory and Safety stockholder approval. After closing, Safety is to operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of MAPFRE USA.
