About Sanlam
Sanlam was registered on June 8, 1918 as the Suid-Afrikaanse Nasionale Lewens Assuransie Maatskappij. In 1998 it demutualised and listed on the JSE and the Namibian Stock Exchange in what was then the largest IPO in South African history. The head office is at 2 Strand Road, Bellville, with a Johannesburg office in Houghton Estate.
Scale and markets
Sanlam describes itself as the largest insurer in Africa, with a presence in 29 countries across Africa and Asia and more than R1.7 trillion in assets under management. Its short-term insurance interests include a controlling stake in Santam.
Products
For individuals Sanlam offers life, disability and funeral cover, savings, investments and retirement products, and for employers retirement funds and group risk benefits. Asset management and wealth management are run through Sanlam Investments and Sanlam Private Wealth.
