About USAA

On June 20, 1922, a group of Army officers met at the Gunter Hotel in San Antonio to create what became the United Services Automobile Association. At the time, auto insurers considered military officers a poor risk, so the founders insured one another. Membership was opened to Navy and Marine Corps officers in 1923 and has expanded since then.
